Slate & Stash
Section 001 is an annual collaborative furniture studio. Each year, at The University of Cincinnati, the studio class takes on a new space DAAP to redesign. In spring 2020, we tackled a maker space called The Sambur Lab. This is a space for industrial design students in DAAP to sew, 3D print and CNC mill projects.
Slate & Stash are two elements that were designed collaboratively by myself, Abby Koenig and Subrina Pumford. I worked primarily on Slate.

My team’s goal was to take the existing table top in the Sambur lab and create a frame that elevated in its functionality for the students.
Through student surveys, we determined the need of the room to have a dirty surface and a clean surface for students to work on.
A movable work surface would also be beneficial when moving machine to machine.

Early on in research the class made the connection between today's maker spaces and hacker spaces.
Tables made the decision to honor this origin story by including binary code in our final design through a perforated sheet metal design of 1’s and 0’s.

Slate Features:
-Repurposed aluminum top
-Two part steel frame
-0101 water jet perforations
